'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith continues battle with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the thrilling final moments of his team's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match ended with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses following the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful strike from distance, and Cameron Burgess immediately slammed home the deflection before sprinting toward the crowd to celebrate, with supporters swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory sealed an unbelievable turnaround given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. Amid the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The victory booked a next round game at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's volley from about way out going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for taking the effort on from that range," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right wing-back after the team changed shape. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the opposition who complimented the way Orient attacked the game.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," he explains. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they are adept at dictate and neutralize a game. You can believe you're doing well and then abruptly they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be focused throughout of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and attention just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

The club pushed to sign Galbraith in January and secured his signature to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in his new home. At Orient he joined forces once more with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at fourth-tier Salford City, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that development for both domestically and internationally, performing well for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the past five games, including two matches games against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his knack for a killer pass.

Starting Out

This marks quite the ride for the kid from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his father, his father, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's only game for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was closed owing to the weather of -15C. "It was a long trip and it was cold out there," he recalls, grinning. "The days leading up, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Leaving United

How hard was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it reached a stage where I believed I required a fresh start, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

Life in Swansea

It is the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to socialize with the guys but I'm aiming to be the next one out of the minibus and on the road. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on the Tube after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
